*Yawn* So maybe it’s because it has rained for the last month solidly. Or maybe it’s because I’m surrounded by trees, fields and deer instead of concrete sidewalks and vinyl buildings. But whatever it is, I am sleeping more. I am snuggling in at home. Drinking more hot drinks, cuddling kittens, and I am Not Going Out!

This led me to wonder. Do we hibernate in the Winter?

According to the “Better Sleep Council.” (BSC) In general, people prefer to lounge in bed rather than venture out in wintry climates. More than one-half of adults read more; and almost two-thirds spend more time watching television. With all the sleeping, reading and TV watching to be enjoyed while it’s cold outside, only one person in ten pursues outdoor activities more in the winter than the summer.

“A comfortable environment is conducive to maximum rest and rejuvenation during winter downtime,” says BSC expert.

Then the article which can be found here goes on to say that we should prep our caves of hibernation. The Mattress. (Consequently, upon further reading I found out that the BSC is supported by the Mattress companies. Surprise Surprise.)

Now I know that Christmas is fast-approaching. (2 days until Advent!!) But, dearest Readers, do not over-commit yourselves this holiday season. Remember, using the excuse of “hibernation” is completely valid! Listen to your body and allow it to rest and rejuvenate because in the Summer there will be plenty of time for barbecues, processing fruit, picking berries, planting gardens. Right now, it is time to eat your stores and sleep.
