I was So inspired by Soule Mama, I found my knitting needles I received for Christmas last year. I dusted off my “I taught myself knitting” book and took to knitting.

Then I was in a tangled frustration.

So I called for back up.

Please meet my Back Up. Theresa is my shining star. She was educated Waldorf style. She taught me that in Grade 1 comes hand-knitting, Grade 2: crochetting, Grade 3: knit stitch, Grade 4: purl stitch.  And that is the way that I must start too.

This photo (above) is Theresa trying to teach me to “cast on.” This was a fairly hopeless pursuit at the time because, although this photo doesn’t show it, I was in such a state of giggles, with tears and the gasping for breath, that I really learned nothing about casting on except that you have to go through a door, a window and out pops Jack. Who the heck is Jack?!

I love my back up.

I stuck at ‘er. And out pops Jack. Or a hat. With a pompom, inspired by young Fraser’s brilliant pom pom.

Ok, I am tres excited about this toque that I am complete still wearing it. Indoors. And every now and then, I turn to Marc, one finger on the pom-pom and just wiggle it!

(cue foreboding music)

Sewing Machine, I shall conquer you. Even if it takes me all winter, next to the woodstove, with a steaming mug of tea and scads of material heaped everywhere.

My pom-pom and I will leave no machine unmastered!

Watch out Sewing Machine! You are next!
